The Story

Stepping into DNV

When Yifu joined DNV in 2022, he made a significant transition from the research laboratory to the world of consulting. Battery technology remained at the heart of his work, but he quickly discovered that succeeding as a consultant required him to look beyond technical expertise.

For Yifu, it was about learning how to turn complex technical knowledge into practical insights that could help customers understand their options and make confident decisions.

The transition brought new challenges as well as new opportunities to learn. One thing, however, stood out to him from the beginning: the people around him and their willingness to share their knowledge.

“From day one, I was inspired by the energy, motivation and enthusiasm of the people around me.”

One mindset has guided Yifu throughout that journey: never be afraid to ask questions.
 

Curiosity as his compass

Curiosity has always been one of Yifu’s greatest strengths. As he gained experience, his interests expanded beyond energy storage technology to the wider energy transition taking place around the world.

He particularly enjoys learning from colleagues with different backgrounds, experiences and perspectives. Sometimes he asks the same question to several colleagues and experts, knowing that each conversation can reveal something different.

That willingness to ask, listen and learn has helped Yifu continuously broaden his understanding of the industry and the challenges customers face. It has also allowed him to build his network and learn from the expertise around him, with the freedom to satisfy his curiosity and keep developing.

“I rarely believe that I already know enough. There is always something new to learn, another perspective to understand or a better question to ask,” he says.
 

From learner to contributor

As Yifu gained experience, he also found more opportunities to contribute.

Over time, he became involved in an increasing number of projects, technical discussions and annual operating planning activities. 

Today, Yifu is passionate about contributing to DNV’s position in the energy storage advisory market. He focuses on building long-term trust with customers while maintaining the quality, integrity and technical excellence of the work he delivers.

His contribution also extends beyond individual projects. As the APAC representative in DNV’s global energy storage group, Yifu helps connect regional teams with global expertise, supports knowledge exchange and contributes to more standardized and effective ways of working.

Working across regional and global networks gives him the opportunity to both learn from others and share his own expertise.

Knowledge grows when shared

Sharing knowledge is an important part of Yifu’s working life at DNV.

Whether through internal knowledge-sharing sessions, project discussions or everyday conversations with colleagues, he values the opportunity to exchange ideas and learn from the people around him.

Yifu particularly enjoys supporting new team members as they begin their own journey at DNV.

Having experienced his own transition into consulting, he understands the value of having colleagues who are willing to answer questions and share what they know.

“I always try to support others in the way that I would like to be supported myself.”

For Yifu, that exchange goes both ways. He sees giving and receiving feedback as an important part of personal and professional growth, creating opportunities to continuously improve and deliver greater value.

Looking ahead

Looking back at his journey so far, Yifu is grateful for the opportunities, support and trust he has received along the way. Each project, challenge and collaboration has given him an opportunity to learn something new and develop both professionally and personally.

And his curiosity about what comes next remains as strong as ever.

“Every step counts. I have no doubt that the journey ahead holds many more exciting possibilities.”

As the energy transition continues, Yifu is excited about the opportunities ahead. He wants to keep learning, contributing and working alongside talented colleagues to help customers navigate complex challenges and support the transition towards a more sustainable energy future.
