The Story
Finding purpose in complex systems
Gennady’s educational background is rooted in Systems Engineering, complemented by a master’s degree in Crisis and Security Management.
“From early on, I was drawn to complex systems, resilience, and the intersection between technology, risk, and society. It naturally aligned with DNV’s purpose and the type of work I wanted to do.”
In 2018, Gennady joined DNV in Singapore within Business Area Digital Solutions. As a Smart City Consultant, he supported cities across the Asia-Pacific region in their digital transformation journeys, working closely with governments, infrastructure providers, and technology partners.
As his responsibilities grew, he progressed to Digital Transformation Consultant and later Senior Consultant.
Moving into OT cybersecurity
During the COVID-19 pandemic, Gennady and his family decided to move back to the Netherlands to be closer to family and friends. Professionally, it marked a significant turning point. He joined Applied Risk as an OT Security Consultant, working with customers across the energy sector. He later progressed to a senior role, taking on OT CISO responsibilities for customers and helping them strengthen cybersecurity governance, risk management, and long-term security planning across operational environments.
"My work ranged from creating asset inventories and reviewing network architecture to developing long-term cybersecurity roadmaps. It accelerated my growth and deepened my understanding of OT environments."
Joining forces with DNV
Just six months after joining Applied Risk, DNV announced its acquisition of the company.
For Gennady, the acquisition created new opportunities to combine Applied Risk’s engineering-driven cybersecurity expertise with DNV’s strong presence across critical industries.
Following the integration, he continued his journey at DNV Cyber as a Senior Consultant. When the opportunity arose to become Team Lead for the Netherlands team, it felt like a natural next step.
"Taking on the Team Lead role allowed me to grow as a leader while supporting the development of others and helping scale the business."
Growing as a leader
After gaining experience as Team Lead, Gennady progressed to Principal Consultant. At the same time, he also took on the role of Global Segment Lead for Power & Renewables.
Today, he combines people leadership with hands-on cybersecurity advisory work, helping customers translate complex regulatory, operational, and technological requirements into practical cybersecurity programms for OT environments.
One of the lessons he has learned throughout his career is that successful cybersecurity requires more than technical expertise.
"Cybersecurity is never only about technology. To create real impact, it has to fit the operational reality and business context of the organization."
Protecting critical energy systems
Supporting the energy transition is one of the most rewarding aspects of Gennady’s work. Working across geographies and helping secure the energy transition has expanded both his perspective and impact.
One highlight was helping grow an offshore wind pilot project into a company-wide rollout for a major power organisation. What started as a focused engagement developed into a long-term partnership and opened new opportunities for collaboration.
Gennady is also proud of fostering a culture where experienced specialists work closely with newer professionals, creating opportunities for learning, knowledge sharing, and professional growth.
Making an impact across borders
For Gennady, one of DNV Cyber’s strengths is a culture where initiative is encouraged. "When you proactively build new services, propose ideas, or open doors to new customers, leadership notices and gives you the space to grow."
He also values the international mindset and collaborative culture across the organisation.
"People are always willing to help, share knowledge, and take time to explain new topics. The ability to work on impactful projects across borders rather than being tied to one country creates opportunities that simply wouldn't be possible elsewhere."
For professionals looking to make a difference, DNV offers the opportunity to work alongside global experts, continuously learn and grow, and deliver meaningful work that helps secure critical infrastructure and support the energy systems of the future
