About the role

Are you ready to work for the world’s leading classification society?

We are now looking for trainees to join our team of surveyors from August 2026.

The trainee program for our surveyors consists of three six-month rotations at different locations where DNV operate. You will start with 6 months on your home-location, before rotating to other DNV offices. In the end you will be rotating back to where you started. The program provides on-the-job training, and we seek to individually design the program based on each trainee’s qualifications, combined with DNV’s strategic focus and competence requirements. You will have a mentor assigned for the whole program. The job is permanent, and you will have a full-time position with DNV from the day you start working.

We have 12 offices along the coast of Norway and in the program you would rotate around to different offices both in Norway and abroad.

In order to work as a surveyor you need to be open both for the rotations, and also to be stationed on the location where we have the need in 2026/2027. This is not yet decided.

What does a surveyor do in his or her daily life?

Surveyors work for classification societies, which are organizations that establish and maintain technical standards for the design, construction, and operation in the maritime industry. A surveyor in DNV is a professional who inspects and verifies the condition, quality, and safety of marine structures, such as ships, platforms, and equipment.

Here are some of their main tasks:

  • Perform surveys on vessels and platforms, at manufacturers and at shipyards for classification and compliance with statutory requirements – we operate in the fields: Fleet in Service, Certification of materials and Components, and Newbuilding
  • Plan, schedule and coordinate the various phases of surveying and also monitor the quality of service on the work performed
  • Prepare technically accurate and timely reports of inspections and surveys
  • Engage with our clients to resolve problems within areas of expertise
  • Travel activity is a big part of the job, and is therefore required
  • We also require a Driver’s license Class B, and the possibility to use your own car at work
