About the role

Would you like to work in a multinational team to secure safety in the shipping industry?

We are looking for you to strengthen our section Type Approval/MED Electrical, Automation & Navigation Systems, within the field of Navigation and Radio Communication.

What we do:

Type and Systems Approvals are essential to confirm that equipment meets applicable requirements and is permitted to be installed on board ships. They are based on technical requirements in DNV class rules, international regulations (Marine Equipment Directive, IMO) and standards (IEC, ISO, EN).

Systems that are certified are based on various measuring and data processing techniques. System integration with data networks and challenging HMI aspects are more and more in the focus also of our Type Approval Engineers.

In our daily work our section provides technical expertise within our discipline to DNV’s customers. Typical tasks are System approvals with Navigation and Radio GMDSS Communication

Based either in our office in Høvik, Norway or Hamburg, Germany, you will be part of an engaged group driven by people’s competence and motivation to help and support our customers through the consistent delivery of high-quality services. Your new team will consist of more than 20 highly skilled engineers from diverse cultures and generations, all working in the Type Approval section.

In this position you will:

  • Perform type approval of Navigation and Radio GMDSS Communication in accordance with international requirements and standards from IMO, IEC, ISO and DNV rules.
  • Manage approval projects towards customers and be part of testing and verification with equipment manufactures in an international industry, in a highly developing market.
  • Support DNV’s local stations and sales force around the world and be involved in sales processes.
  • Participate in face-to-face meetings with customers.

You will report to Head of Section for TA/MED Electrical, Control & Navigation Systems.

You can expect some travelling related to testing and verification at customers’ locations.

About you

Position Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master degree in system/software/electrical Engineering, Tele-/Radiocommunication or Nautical sciences.
  • Relevant experience from navigation and/or communication
  • Experience or interest in the general field of instrumentation, complex integrated systems and HMI, related to topics such as industrial computer/cloud networks, cyber security, automation systems, sensors, electronics, testing, simulations or nautical.
  • Interest in working with standards and marine regulations for the ship industry.In addition, background from the maritime or offshore industry is beneficial
  • Excellent English skills both written and verbal- skills in Norwegian and/or German is a plus.
