About the role

Would you like to be part of a dedicated team that builds desktop and cloud software solutions for hydrodynamic and strength assessment of offshore and maritime structures?

The Product Line Renewables and Ocean Structures (ROS) is seeking a Head of Section - Hydrodynamics to lead our team for development of Sesam hydrodynamic programs. DNV Sesam software (https://www.dnv.com/sesam) is a global market leader in the maritime and oil & gas industries. As the world transitions towards renewable energy, Sesam is becoming key for the design and operation of fixed and floating offshore wind turbine (OWT) structures. You will be involved in challenging work enhancing the methodology, efficiency and user experience of the Sesam workflows for maritime, offshore and renewable structures.

The Hydrodynamic section is responsible for enhancing and renewing our hydrodynamic software that is part of the DNV Sesam software system. The Sesam hydrodynamic programs include HydroD, hydrodynamics solvers (Wadam, Wasim, Wajac) and associated tools. In addition to line management, you will be doing software development.

The Section is part of Software Engineering ROS, which is responsible for software development, software technology, architecture, testing, and operations of advanced engineering software like Sesam and Bladed. The Product Centre consists of 60+ dedicated developers and engineers in multiple locations such as Oslo, Bristol, Shanghai and Gdynia. You will be part of a motivated team consisting of domain experts, professional software engineers, software testers, product managers and technical support engineers who pride themselves in delivering high-quality software. You will get the opportunity to solve hard and interesting problems.

Main responsibilities:

  • Line management in accordance with DNV Management System
  • Lead the hydrodynamic development team with focus on design and development of our Sesam hydrodynamic solvers and associated tools used for hydrodynamic and strength assessment of maritime, offshore and renewable structures
  • Structured competence development
  • Keeps commitment to scope, time and resource usage
  • Maintain knowledge and competence of state-of-art solutions and contribute to maintain thought leadership within hydrodynamics
  • Cooperation and networking within and outside DNV
  • Facilitate strong market presence for team together with sales, marketing and product management
  • Assist product manager, marketing, technical support and sales to understand customers’ need in technical perspectives, including participation in meetings with customers and handling 3rd line for support for hydrodynamic solutions
  • Understand customer needs for improving the performance and user experience of Sesam software engineering workflows
  • Coding and developments of our Sesam hydrodynamic products and associated tools used for maritime, offshore and renewable structures

About you

Position Qualifications:

Must Have

  • MSc or PhD in hydrodynamics, Naval Architecture, engineering or similar domain
  • Motivated in software developments
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships
  • Solution oriented and pro-active
  • Good communication and networking skills
  • Some software development experience

Nice to have

  • More than 3 years’ experience within project or people management
  • Professional software programming experience within one or more of the following languages Fortran/C++/C#
  • Familiarity with Sesam or similar hydrodynamic tools.
  • Familiarity with software development frameworks like Agile/scrum
  • Familiarity with DNV rules and RPs or relevant standards
