Thomas – Digital Workplace & Cloud Infrastructure Manager
How mergers and change created opportunities for Thomas to grow from IT support into a global leadership role.
The Story
Starting out. Building resilience in IT support.
Eighteen years ago, Thomas began his career in a DNV legacy company as a desk-side assistant, supporting around 400 colleagues with their day-to-day IT needs. It was a fast-paced environment where no days were the same. He quickly learned how to adapt, prioritize, and stay calm under pressure.
"It was intense at first, but it taught me how to focus and find solutions quickly," he says. "You learn a lot when you're helping people find new solutions every day."
This early experience built a strong foundation and sparked his interest in exploring more specialised areas within IT.
Stepping into new opportunities through change
The first major turning point in Thomas's career came when two DNV legacy companies merged. With change came new possibilities, and Thomas stepped into a role working with specialised systems, expanding both his technical expertise and his confidence.
Thomas suddenly saw opportunities he had not seen before. It pushed him to learn more and take the next step. His journey is a true example of how staying curious and open to change can open doors to new career paths and continuous development.
Going global. Learning from others.
When another merger brought the legacy companies together under DNV, Thomas became part of a global network of around 20 experts in his field. Working across borders gave him exposure to different perspectives and ways of solving challenges.
"Meeting new people and staying focused gives me energy and drives results. There is so much to learn when you work in a global team," he says.
For Thomas, this was a defining moment. His ambition to work on large international projects became reality, supported by a collaborative culture where knowledge sharing and trust plays a key role.
Leading people. Bridging IT and business.
Later in his journey, Thomas transitioned into a digital workplace project manager role – his first experience leading people. With support from his manager, he developed the confidence to step into leadership and take ownership of both projects and teams.
Today, Thomas manages teams and works closely with both IT specialists and business stakeholders, always focusing on creating solutions that meet real needs.
"I try to think in solutions, not limitations. Understanding the business is just as important as understanding the technology," he explains.
Looking back, Thomas sees every merger not just as a change in structure, but as a catalyst for personal and professional growth. His journey shows how you can evolve your career alongside the company - through learning, collaboration, and the confidence to take on new challenges.
