The Story
Building a global maritime career across countries.
A global journey shaped by opportunity
Piotr’s career with DNV spans Poland, Norway, South Korea, and China, reflecting his belief that learning happens fastest when you embrace new environments. His path shows how DNV supports international mobility, collaboration, and continuous development - values highlighted across the company’s culture and storytelling.
“Each role and each country helped me see the industry from a completely new angle,” he says.
Designing with precision
Piotr began his journey in Poland, working on vessel design across hull systems, machinery, and production systems. Later in Norway, he worked as a Type and Plan Approval Engineer in Fire Safety and Life-Saving Systems before specializing in environmental protection approvals. These roles taught him not only the technical depth of maritime engineering but also how to transform complex regulations into practical, innovative solutions.
“I learned how important it is to balance rules with real-world needs,” he recalls.
Surveying at the heart of shipbuilding
His next chapters unfolded in South Korea and China, where he worked directly in shipyards as a Surveyor. Being on-site gave him a closer look at the physical scale of shipbuilding. He oversaw hull construction, machinery installation, and commissioning, ensuring vessels were delivered safely and on time.
“Seeing a vessel come to life in front of you is something every engineer should experience,” he says.
Leading projects with confidence
Later, as a Project Manager Approval, Piotr coordinated the end-to-end approval process for major projects. He then took on responsibility for vessel construction as a Project Manager, guiding ships from steel cutting to delivery. Today, based in Jiangyin, he contributes to next‑generation container vessels and tankers, including LNG-powered and ammonia‑ready designs - highlighting DNV’s continued commitment to innovation and sustainability.
“These projects challenge you to think ahead, not just follow standards,” he says.
A career without borders
Beyond the technical work, Piotr sees his global journey as a personal one. Moving with his family across continents strengthened his appreciation for different cultures and working styles. Throughout every transition, he felt supported by colleagues and leaders who encouraged him to grow.
“DNV gives you the freedom to explore, relocate, and take on new responsibilities,” he says. “That trust makes all the difference.”
Advice to others
Piotr encourages anyone considering a future in maritime to choose a path that allows them to see the industry from many angles.
“Build your career with DNV. Working across countries and projects not only expands your expertise but shapes you into a truly global professional.”
