About the Role

We are seeking a highly motivated Surveyor, Ships in Operation to join our team supporting vessel classification and statutory services in the Porto do Açu region. The successful candidate will perform surveys, audits, and technical assessments for vessels in operation, ensuring compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and quality standards while delivering excellent customer service.

This position offers exposure to a wide variety of vessel types, marine operations, dry-dock projects, and technical assignments in one of Brazil's most important maritime hubs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct classification and statutory surveys, audits, and inspections for vessels operating in Porto do Açu and, when required, at other Brazilian ports.
  • Perform on-site surveys during port stays, operational periods, and dry-docking activities.
  • Participate in major vessel conversions, modifications, repairs, and other technical marine projects.
  • Maintain full compliance with organizational requirements by carrying out survey and technical activities in line with applicable regulations, company procedures, quality standards, and management instructions.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to customers, ensuring practical and customer-focused solutions.
  • Support other classification and certification activities as required by business needs.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality regarding clients' business operations, documentation, designs, and technical information.
  • When applicable, supervise work carried by others, ensuring work is performed safely, efficiently, and in accordance with applicable requirements.
  • Escalate technical, operational, or reputational concerns to line management at the earliest appropriate opportunity.
  • Act as a professional representative of DNV, promoting the company's services and values through high-quality customer interactions.

About you

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marine Engineering, Naval Architecture, Mechanical Engineering, or a related discipline with previous experience in Maritime Engineering or Master Mariner.
  • Proven experience within a Classification Society or the wider maritime industry.
  • Solid understanding of classification and statutory survey activities and related regulatory requirements.
  • Formal auditor qualification in ISM, ISPS, and/or MLC is an advantage.
  • Hold a valid registration with the Brazilian Engineering Council (CREA).
  • Professional proficiency in both Portuguese and English (written and spoken).
  • Strong customer orientation with the ability to understand and respond to client needs.
  • Physical capability to perform vessel surveys, including working at heights and in confined spaces.
  • Hold a valid driver's license.
  • Flexibility to work outside regular office hours when operational requirements demand, including weekends, public holidays, and evening assignments.
  • Willingness to relocate or accept future national and/or international internal mobility opportunities.
