About the role

DNV Maritime is seeking a Senior Surveyor to join our team in Callao, Peru, supporting a broad range of classification, statutory certification, newbuilding supervision, and assurance activities across the maritime industry.

The successful candidate will become part of a highly qualified team serving shipowners, operators, shipyards, and maritime stakeholders throughout Peru and the wider South American region.

This position offers an excellent opportunity to work with vessels in operation, support major maritime projects, contribute to business growth, and help customers navigate an increasingly digitalized and decarbonized maritime industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct classification and statutory surveys on ships in operation in accordance with applicable DNV Rules, IMO Conventions, Flag State requirements, and international regulations.
  • Perform onboard surveys during port stays, drydockings, repairs, modifications, and major conversion projects.
  • Support and follow up on newbuilding projects, including construction supervision, testing, commissioning, and delivery activities.
  • Provide technical guidance and advisory support to shipowners, operators, shipyards, and maritime stakeholders.
  • Maintain professional communication with customers and act as a trusted technical resource.
  • Support certification activities related to statutory and class requirements.
  • Identify business opportunities and contribute to customer relationship development within the local maritime market.
  • Ensure all activities are performed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with DNV quality requirements and management systems.
  • Promote DNV's values and strengthen our reputation through high-quality customer interactions and technical excellence.

About you

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related maritime discipline.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience within a Classification Society, Flag Administration, shipyard, ship management company, or the broader maritime industry.
  • Strong knowledge of ship classification principles and statutory certification processes.
  • Good understanding of IMO conventions and international maritime regulatory requirements, including SOLAS, MARPOL, Load Line, Tonnage, ISM, ISPS, and MLC frameworks.
  • Experience conducting surveys on ships in operation.
  • Experience supporting vessel newbuilding projects and shipyard activities.
  • Strong customer orientation and ability to build trusted relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Professional proficiency in both English and Spanish.
  • Valid driving license and willingness to travel domestically and internationally when required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Qualification as Class and Statutory Surveyor within DNV or another IACS Classification Society.
  • Formal Auditor qualification in ISM, ISPS and/or MLC, highly desirable.
  • Project management or technical superintendent experience.
