We are looking for a Junior Engineer to join our Type Approval / MED Electrical, Automation & Navigation Systems section.

What We Do
Type Approval and System Approval ensure that technical equipment meets international requirements and can be safely installed on board ships. Our work is based on:
- DNV classification rules
- International maritime regulations (IMO, Marine Equipment Directive – MED)
- International standards (IEC, ISO, EN)
As a Junior Engineer, you will gradually be introduced to system approvals covering areas such as:
- Navigation systems
- Radio and GMDSS communication
- Electrical Systems
- Instrumentation Systems
- Modern integrated systems, networks, and HMI solutions
You will work closely with experienced engineers and gain exposure to advanced technologies used in the global maritime industry.
Your Work Environment
The position can be based in Høvik, Norway, or Hamburg, Germany.
You will become part of a supportive team of more than 20 engineers, representing diverse nationalities, backgrounds, and experience levels. Knowledge sharing, mentoring, and collaboration are central to how we work.
What You Will Do
In this role, you will:
- Participate in type approval activities for electrical, instrumentation, navigation, and radio equipment under guidance from senior engineers.
- Support approval projects and assist with testing and verification of equipment from international manufacturers.
- Learn how to apply international rules, standards, and regulations in real projects.
- Cooperate with colleagues across DNV’s global organization, including local stations and sales teams.
- Take part in customer meetings and gradually build confidence in professional communication.
- Develop your technical skills through training programs, mentoring, and on-the-job learning.
You will report to the Head of Section – TA/MED Electrical, Control & Navigation Systems. Some travel related to testing and verification may be included as you gain experience.
