About the role

DNV Maritime Advisory India is part of Maritime Advisory in Southeast Asia, Pacific and India (SEAPI) and sits in the Decarbonization and Performance Department. We support the maritime industry with advisory services across decarbonization, technical services and safety and risk, with a focus on the Indian market. Our services also include safe operations with alternative fuels, digital transformation, sustainability, and broader strategic and technical decision support for the whole maritime industry covering clients from shipyards and ports to shipowners and managers. DNV Maritime Advisory is helping customers make safe, sustainable, and commercially sound decisions in a period of industry transformation and shifting markets.

We are seeking a commercially minded and technically credible Group Leader to grow and lead our Maritime Advisory activities in India. The role combines team leadership, business development, project oversight, and selective delivery on high value advisory engagements. The successful candidate will strengthen our local presence in India, develop our people, deepen client relationships, and convert market demand into profitable and scalable advisory work.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the Maritime Advisory team in India, including coaching, performance management, recruitment support, capability development, and day to day team direction.
  • Build and maintain a strong pipeline of advisory opportunities with shipowners, ports, maritime authorities, yards, investors, cargo interests, fuel providers, and other maritime stakeholders in India.
  • Drive sales and client engagement activities, from opportunity shaping and proposal development to negotiation support and account growth.
  • Ensure projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget, and to DNV quality standards.
  • Allocate and mobilize the right resources from India, the region, and the global DNV network to deliver client projects at the right quality.
  • Act as a senior advisor and project manager/sponsor on selected projects for key clients in India
  • Translate client needs and market signals into improved service offerings, methods, and thought leadership for the India market.
  • Strengthen collaboration with regional Maritime Advisory colleagues and other DNV business areas to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Drive commercial discipline, including forecasting, utilization, margin awareness, bid quality, and compliance with internal governance processes.
  • Represent DNV externally through client meetings, industry forums, workshops, and relevant ecosystem engagement.

About you

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in engineering, naval architecture, marine engineering, maritime studies, data or digital disciplines, economics, or another relevant field.
  • 20 years of relevant experience in maritime consulting, shipping, ports, shipbuilding, marine technology, or adjacent sectors.
  • Strong understanding of at least several of the following areas: decarbonization pathways, alternative fuels, fleet or port digitalization, techno economic assessment, safety, maritime strategy, regulatory developments, vessel or port operations, sustainability and consulting.
  • Proven ability to win work, manage clients, and convert technical insight into commercial opportunities.
  • Prior people leadership experience is preferred, including mentoring and development of junior and mid-level professionals.
  • Strong project management capability, including planning, resource coordination, commercial awareness, and quality control.
  • Ability to work effectively across cultures and leverage a global expert network.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Willingness to travel within India and selectively across the region.
