About the role

Decarbonization, energy efficiency measures, digital transformation, and autonomous and digital ship systems are transforming the maritime industry. All aspects leading to increased complexity and interdependencies in both ship system design, the human element and operational processes. To effectively tackle the potential hazards and unfamiliar risks this entails, we adopt a multidisciplinary approach to manage the risks – the Human, Organisational and Technical approach. To meet client needs and strengthen our capabilities we are currently seeking operational risk consultants within the fields of organizational performance and human factors.

The position will be located at our DNV office in Ålesund and within the safety, risk & reliability advisory team. The section works closely with maritime clients world-wide to provide them with the foundation to make risk-based decisions on operational and technical issues. Our client base ranges from large entities (such as IMO, EMSA, flag states, etc.) to international ship owners, shipyards and operators.

Key responsibilities in the role:

  • Perform risk assessments and consultancy services related to autonomous and remotely operated ships and ensuring that ships running on alternative fuels (such as LNG, methanol, hydrogen, ammonia, etc.) are ready for safe operation.
  • Drive innovation and development of new services and risk assessment methods particularly within the field of organizational performance and human factors, mapping and improvement of safety culture, incident investigation and organizational learning.
  • Stay abreast of industry trends, regulatory changes, and emerging risks to proactively address potential challenges within the maritime sector.
  • You will be responsible for project execution from A to Z. This includes marketing and bidding activities, project work and project management, writing technical reports, preparing presentations, customer follow-up.

About you

Skills, Experience and Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in organizational psychology, risk management, engineering or a related field. Applicants with equivalent experience and qualifications will also be considered.
  • Working experience with background from maritime, offshore or energy. Candidates with experience from consultancy and risk management services are encouraged to apply.
  • Experienced with human and organizational risk, organizational performance, safety management systems, human element and change management.
  • Familiar with qualitative and quantitative risk assessment techniques.
  • For you to succeed as a consultant in our section, you should be self-driven, analytical, customer oriented and motivated by tackling complex challenges. A substantial part of being a consultant is related to customer interaction and workshop facilitation. It is therefore important that you enjoy facilitating meetings and workshops with both small and larger teams and have the ability to work on multiple projects at the same time and find motivation by taking on new challenges.
  • We are looking for applicants with a genuine interest in supporting our clients with their value-creation through advisory services related to safety management, organizational processes, technical challenges, and new technology.
  • Fluent in English and Norwegian both written and verbal.
