About the role

Group Research and Development (GRD) performs strategic and applied research for DNV focusing on knowledge development through collaborations with academia and industry, providing thought leadership through external publications and forecasts, and creates scientific legitimacy to DNV services. A major focus for GRD is to shape the future of digital assurance.

The Digital Assurance research programme specializes in AI and Assurance of AI. We conduct strategic research and develop innovative tools and methods to shape the future of digital assurance, addressing technological, societal, and trust-related challenges across industries.

The programme is organized into specialized teams, and we are currently looking for a new member to join the Risk and Modelling Technologies Group (RAM). Our team’s mission is to ensure that AI-enabled systems are safe, reliable, and compliant with regulatory standards, fostering confidence in their adoption.

Are you interested in solving complex problems in assurance of AI using advanced techniques for managing uncertainty and risk? Would like to research how these techniques can be used in high-stakes environments?

As a Senior Researcher in AI Assurance & Risk, you will contribute to cutting-edge projects on AI safety and risk. You will have the opportunity to:

  • Work on AI-driven risk management tools
  • Develop methods for safe use of AI in high-risk settings
  • Explore emerging topics
  • Integrate probabilistic ML, UQ and other advanced AI models into workflows

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or support research on AI assurance, risk, and safety
  • Mentor and promote knowledge sharing
  • Identify funding and build research consortia
  • Develop methods for AI assurance and risk management
  • Contribute to public guidelines and research outputs
  • Communicate findings clearly to diverse audiences

About you

  • Master’s degree or equivalent in AI, systems engineering, applied math, or related fields
  • Practical experience in AI, assurance, risk, or industrial systems engineering
  • Knowledge of uncertainty quantification, probabilistic methods, or model robustness
  • Interest or experience in AI assurance, safety, and risk management
  • Strong problem-solving and cross-disciplinary communication skills
  • Curiosity and ability to work across research domains
  • Programming skills and readiness for both conceptual and applied work

About the process: Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis. We plan to conduct first interviews between the 23rd of June and the 6th of July. Due to summer break in Norway we will continue with second interviews in the beginning/mid August.
