Join our team in Maritime Digitalization Research!

Are you motivated to work on cutting-edge research projects in maritime digitalization? DNV Group Research and Development seeks the right visionary individual who thrives in a collaborative, inclusive, and innovative environment.

As digital transformation accelerates in the maritime industry, our team leads by developing knowledge, technology demonstrators, and practices that shape industry standards. We tackle challenges in system integration, AI adoption, safety assurance, and remote monitoring, paving the way for data-driven services and improved energy efficiency.

Maritime equipment is increasingly integrated into complex, SW-driven systems, posing challenges for safety, security, reliability, and interoperability. At the same time, the need for remote monitoring and health management is growing. Addressing these requires extensive research.

If you have expertise in Maritime IT/OT systems or maritime engineering and are eager to advance digital innovation in shipping, join the Maritime Research group, working alongside 19 experts in a program that is part of DNV’s 125-strong corporate R&D unit.

Key areas:

  • Advance DNV and customer adoption of digital technologies in maritime applications through research and innovation
  • Initiate, design, and manage new research projects, including development of data-driven demonstrators and products
  • Develop standards for maritime data exchange and real-time assurance services
  • Extract insights from DNV’s data to create cutting-edge assurance services
  • Assess emerging digital technologies and their impact on maritime
  • Author technical reports, papers, and presentations to enhance DNV's thought leadership
  • Build networks with customers to understand industry needs and drive collaboration
  • Partner with academia and industry for joint research and funding opportunities (e.g., EU, NFR)

About you

You should have:

  • A solid educational background, MSc or PhD level technical degree, within data science, machine learning, electrical or mechanical engineering, maritime technology or similar
  • Experience with the data utilization for tasks such as maritime machinery prognostics and diagnostics, analytics/prediction, automation or digitalization of services.
  • Maritime industry expertise: operations, maritime energy/power systems, and digital transformation insights from business and technical perspectives
  • 5-25 years of experience

To succeed in the role you should have advanced insight into some of the following topics:

  • Industrial IoT: sensors, edge computing, telemetry, connectivity
  • Prognostics, health management, and condition-based maintenance
  • Data analytics, AI, machine learning, and related tools
  • Information systems architecture design and implementation
  • Software engineering: programming, tools, and methodologies
  • Automation of software and data processes
