We are seeking a Lead Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Engineer to drive technical excellence, guide project execution, and expand our CFD-based advisory services across the energy transition.
As a Lead CFD Engineer, you will be responsible for providing technical leadership for complex simulation activities, defining best practices, mentoring junior engineers, and supporting strategic development of CFD capabilities in DNV China. You will collaborate closely with multidisciplinary teams across DNV—including Process Safety, Hydrogen, Renewables Advisory, Maritime, and Energy Infrastructure—to deliver high value insights that that enhance the safety and efficient of energy systems.
You will play a critical role in strengthening DNV’s position as a trusted technical advisor for emerging technologies such as hydrogen, offshore wind, energy storage, CCUS, e-fuels, industrial decarbonization, and digital twins.
This position is based in Shanghai and requires an onsite presence to perform the responsibilities of the role.
What You’ll do.
Technical Leadership & Domain Expertise
- Serve as the technical authority for CFD within the section or service line, ensuring high‑quality modeling approaches
- Lead advanced CFD analyses involving fire and explosion/dispersion modeling, ventilation, heat transfer, CO₂ dispersion and Cryogenic spill.
- Review and approve technical reports, safety documentation, and engineering recommendations.
- Drive innovation in CFD methodologies, workflow automation, and digital tool development
Project Delivery & Quality Stewardship
- Lead multiple concurrent CFD projects, ensuring they meet DNV’s quality standards and contractual commitments.
- Act as the Project Technical Lead for CFD-heavy engagements.
- Ensure technical consistency across offices and project teams globally.
- Support compliance with relevant energy-industry regulations, DNV Standards, and recommended Practices.
Service Delivery & Quality
- Plan, manage, and deliver CFD projects in line with DNV quality standards, project budgets, and timelines.
- Support Project Managers and act as technical reviewer or project sponsor for CFD‑related work.
- Ensure simulations comply with relevant regulatory frameworks and safety requirements applicable to energy facilities.
- Interface with clients to clarify expectations, present findings, and provide technical guidance.
- Business Development & Market Support
- Support Service Line Leaders, Market Area Managers, and Key Account Managers in identifying CFD‑driven business opportunities.
- Contribute to proposals, scope definitions, and client‑tailored technical solutions.
- Represent DNV at conferences, technical forums, and client meetings to strengthen our market position in CFD‑related services.
