About the role

DNV – Technology Centre Groningen is looking for a Self-propelling Senior Specialist in carbon Fuels & Engine Technology to lead and execute projects related to introduction of low-carbon fuels and to ensure they are de-risked DNV’s clients.

The role demands thought leadership, and deep expertise in engine technology, combustion technology, and emission regulation. Developing fair and transparent low-carbon fuel specifications is an important method to ensure a reliable introduction. The senior specialist will work on the qualification and validation of new fuels, novel engine and catalyst technology, new combustion concepts and strategies to support the overarching objective of deep decarbonization. Additionally, the role involves consulting or advisory work at a high level of competence and experience as well as organizing test-related work. Regular client contact, travel to site visits, meetings, conferences and other off-site events are an integral to this position.

The ideal candidate will have the ambition and drive to ensure excellent project execution, guarantee high-quality delivery, and contribute to the growth of DNV’s services in this area. Finally, the “Fuels & Engines” Specialist will support the excellent operation of the Technology Centre Groningen test services.

DNV's Technology Centre in Groningen, the Netherlands, has recently moved into brand new facilities It serves as a catalyst for innovation and business growth, both for customers and DNV. The center provides expert advice, R&D support, and world-leading test facilities for various decarbonization technologies. The center combines deep expertise with broad testing capabilities to qualify critical (gas) technologies, and develop, and check the specifications to tackle the energy transition. Other primary areas of expertise at the center include Flow Technology, Gas & emissions measurement, and technology demonstration.

The new Groningen facility is part of DNV’s network of Technology Centres that leverage the group's century-old experience in the maritime and energy sectors. It combines deep industrial expertise with test capabilities to qualify and apply advanced technologies for global transformations.

This position will be based in Groningen (the Netherlands) at the Technology Centre located at the vibrant Zernike Campus.

Tasks include:

  • Initiate, develop, and complete customer projects
  • Develop and win proposals
  • Perform overall project management activities
  • Ensure excellent customer communication to build customer relationships
  • Discuss and resolve complex technical issues
  • Organize test-related work
  • Ensure efficient execution of work
  • Maintain good relationships with colleagues at the Technology Centre.

About you

Position Qualifications

  • Preferrable a university degree in a relevant engineering field (e.g. chemical, process, operation or mechanical engineering).
  • At least 10+ years of relevant experience in the engine manufacturing, operating or maintenance industry;
  • Recognized as a specialist within the industry;
  • Holds genuine network and connections with industry professionals;
  • Strong communication and organizational skills (both verbal and written), able to work effectively within a consultancy as well as test environment;
  • Strong competence in proposal & report writing, ensuring clear and accurate reports are produced in English and or Dutch;
  • Ability to handle the complex (technical) problems and be able to guide individuals through the associated issues;
  • Is flexible to occasional travel.
  • Ability to build and maintain relationships.
