About the role

Middle East & Africa region is experiencing a strong growth in renewable energies, driven by increase of energy demand and government support. We at DNV are expanding our renewables energy advisory and seeking an intern to support on projects delivery and business development activities.

Our customers come to DNV with varying requirements during the different stages of the project lifecycle. We support developers, owners and operators, lenders, and investors, globally through industry-leading advisory services for solar and wind. We are committed to leading or supporting a wide range of industry initiatives designed to further the growth of the renewables industry and advance the energy transition.

Job description

We are currently seeking to employ a qualified candidate for the position of Renewables Engineer Intern (or the “Candidate”) for Technical Services under Renewables, Energy Systems to be based in Cape Town, South Africa.

As part of DNV’s Renewables MEA Section in the SEMELA region, the Candidate will work along with other technical professionals in the Energy Systems group to provide technical consulting services and support business development activities. The 6 months duration internship will focus on 3 main areas which will be discussed & agreed with candidate.
(1) Support & learn Project Management: exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of renewable energy project management. This is a dynamic and challenging position that helps the project management team within an organization. As an intern in this role, you will be responsible for supporting various project management activities, ensuring the smooth execution of projects, and contributing to their successful completion. This position offers an excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in project management and develop valuable skills in a professional setting. Main activities include:
(2) Support & learn Bid Management: exciting opportunity to gain hands-on experience in the field of renewable energy bid management. As an intern in this role, you will provide support to the bid management team, assisting in the preparation and submission of proposals for renewable advisory services. This position offers valuable exposure to the bidding process and the renewable energy sector, allowing you to contribute to the growth of clean energy initiatives. Main activities include:
(3) Support & learn technical consulting: excellent opportunity to gain practical experience in the renewable energy industry and contribute to technical consulting projects. As an intern in this role, you will support the technical consultancy team in providing expertise and advice to clients in the renewable energy sector. This position offers exposure to a wide range of renewable energy technologies and projects, allowing you to develop essential skills and knowledge in the field. Main activities include:

Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including engineers, project managers, and business developers, to gather and integrate technical inputs for consulting projects.

This role reporting to MEA Team Lead (solar or wind) will focus on supporting our technical team in delivering our services to our existing customers and supporting bid managers preparing proposals in MEA region. After completing the internship, depending on performance and market conditions you may obtain a permanent employment with a fair remuneration plan in South Africa.

About you

  • Master / bachelor’s in Renewable Energy, Electrical, Mechanical, Mathematical, Civil Engineering or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Strong interest in renewable energy technologies and sustainable development.
  • Solid analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret technical data and draw meaningful conclusions.
  • Proficiency in data analysis tools and software, such as Excel, MATLAB, or Python, is a plus.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and commitment to delivering accurate and high-quality work.
  • Flexibility and adaptability to changing project requirements and client expectations.
  • Strong proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • A positive attitude, eagerness to learn, and a strong work ethic.
  • Familiarity with renewable energy technologies, project development, and industry standards is a plus.
  • Familiarity with project management principles and tools is a plus.
