About the role

Supporting the industry for safe and sustainable operations of subsea assets

DNV is looking for a committed engineer with welding and materials/subsea expertise to further strengthen our position in the oil and gas market. Our Subsea, Drilling and Well team is located in Stavanger, Bergen and Høvik, and we are seeking to expand and develop our team in Bergen. The team consists of highly qualified engineers working closely with key players in the O&G industry in Norway and globally.

The ideal candidate will be based in Bergen and have an IWE (International Welding Engineer) degree. The main focus of the work will be to act as Welding Engineer/QA-QC Engineer for welding, materials and fabrication/repair activities related to maintenance, integrity and recertification of well control and workover equipment. You will support the industry in maintaining the integrity of technical and operational barriers for safety-critical equipment, systems, and operations through independent technical review, verification and follow-up.

You will work closely with colleagues in the section. Key responsibilities include:

  • Qualification, review, and approval of Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS) and Procedure Qualification Records (PQR)
  • Technical assessment and validation of welding documentation in line with IIW, ISO, EN, ASME, NORSOK and relevant DNV documents (e.g., DNV-OS-C401, DNV-RP-B204, DNV-ST-F101 and DNV-ST-C101)
  • Review and verify documentation for well control, workover and subsea equipment against manufacturer requirements and applicable standards.
  • Perform surveillance and witness activities, including second- and third-party inspection and testing.
  • Evaluate and follow up inspection and test results (welding, NDT, FAT) and confirm closure of findings.
  • Manage and contribute to projects within welding, materials and quality scopes as required.
  • Recertification Quality Engineer scope: plan and execute documentation review and verification activities for recertification projects, including review of ITPs, hold/witness points, scope alignment to applicable requirements, and compilation/review of recertification dossiers (manufacturing records, repair history, inspection/NDT results, pressure/load test records, material certificates and release notes).
  • Ensure materials and welding traceability throughout the lifecycle (MTR/EN 10204, heat/lot traceability, consumable control and PWHT records) and verify compliance with client specifications and relevant standards.
  • Lead and participate in nonconformance handling (NCR), root-cause analysis and corrective/preventive actions (CAPA); provide technical input on weld repair dispositions and acceptance criteria.
  • Support vendor qualification and quality follow-up: review supplier quality plans, assess welding/NDT capability, and contribute to audits and surveillance as required.
  • Communicate with clients and stakeholders to clarify requirements, present findings, and support timely closure of technical and quality issues.
  • Relevant degree (MSc/BSc) or equivalent in welding engineering, mechanical engineering or petroleum technology
  • Hands-on experience with welding quality deliverables (WPS/PQR/WPQ, weld maps, NDT requirements/acceptance criteria, repairs and manufacturing record books)
  • Experience from oil and gas, preferably within subsea drilling/well equipment, manufacturing and/or recertification
  • Recertification experience and knowledge of DNV-RP-E101 are an advantage; familiarity with DNV-OS-C401, DNV-RP-B204, DNV-ST-F101 and DNV-ST-C101 is beneficial
  • Familiarity with risk-based thinking and strong attention to details
  • Strong communication skills (written and spoken)
  • Fluent in Norwegian and English (written and spoken)
