Seeking a dynamic and solutions-oriented Specialist/Senior Principal Engineer to lead power system planning engagements across Australia’s energy transition. Recognised as a subject matter expert in network planning, the position will provide technical leadership and direction, co-ordinate key stakeholders, and take responsibility for ensuring the PEMS business enables Energy Systems to achieve its strategic ambitions. The role requires an ability to assess situations or problems in an analytical manner, taking account of wider organisational concerns, and to make considered decision or recommendations which can have a major impact on business objectives.
As a Specialist/Senior Principal Engineer in PEMS, you will play a key role in shaping the technical direction of our work and strengthening the engineering capability across the team. You will provide deep subject‑matter expertise on complex planning and market challenges, ensuring high‑quality delivery and technical excellence in all engagements.
You will work closely with project teams, Key Account Managers, Market Area Managers and Segment Leads to support strategic opportunities and contribute to a strong customer experience. A core part of the role is to elevate technical standards, mentor engineers, and drive knowledge development aligned with business priorities.
In this position, you will focus on delivering high‑value technical outcomes, improving efficiency, and supporting consistent utilisation across the team. You will help foster a collaborative, high‑performing engineering culture by guiding technical approaches, sharing best practices, and contributing to capability growth. While not a people‑management role, you will influence how the team operates and ensure we bring the right technical skills to the right challenges.
Key Responsibilities
Lead complex network planning and power system analysis engagements, ensuring high‑quality, consistent and efficient technical delivery aligned with customer expectations.
Drive modelling, analytical approaches and technical recommendations for transmission and power system planning, providing authoritative guidance on methodologies and outcomes.
Exercise sound technical judgement in decisions that influence project direction and departmental objectives within established strategic guidelines.
Influence and guide stakeholders through strong communication, technical credibility and the ability to persuade and align others around engineering approaches.
Represent DNV externally as a senior technical authority in discussions with customers, partners and industry stakeholders.
Review and refine internal technical procedures and documentation to ensure accuracy, consistency and alignment with best practice.
Contribute to defining project objectives and technical requirements, ensuring clarity of scope and robust engineering foundations.
Develop and review methodologies for proposals and scopes of work, ensuring effort estimates are robust, defensible and aligned with engagement complexity and customer requirements.
Provide technical direction, mentoring and coordination to team members and junior engineers, supporting capability development and knowledge growth.
Participate in shaping the strategic technical development of the department, including identifying emerging needs and capability gaps.
Evaluate, introduce and champion new tools, models and technologies that enhance analytical capability and delivery efficiency.
Develop and implement improved engineering procedures, systems and workflows to strengthen quality and consistency.
