Tor Kristian – Software Engineer

The Story

“We’ll keep your CV on file” doesn’t always fill a job candidate with hope, but for Tor Kristian Ertsvik Andreassen, it ended in a call up and joining DNV as a Software Engineer. 

After completing his Master's degree at NTNU Trondheim in Norway, Tor Kristian applied for a position at DNV. While he didn’t receive an offer at first, his profile was retained in DNV’s career portal, and he was later invited to join the recruitment process for different role and was successful. 

His skillset, knowledge and proficiency in C++ programming language made him a good candidate for a Software Engineer role with a focus on modelling offshore structures, even though he didn’t study naval architecture.  

Tor Kristian now works on Digital Solutions’ portfolio of Sesam products for structural analysis of offshore structures and ships. He enjoys bringing in ideas, learning from experienced colleagues, and working on software that safeguards life, property, and the environment. 

“I can transfer a lot of knowledge from my studies while also learning something every day from super knowledgeable people.

We care about safety and limiting the impact on environment. The things we do, if we do them properly, can save lives and contribute to a safe workplace. That is the most meaningful part, contributing to safer work.” said Tor Kristian. 

More than a daily to-do list 

Outside of his day-to-day tasks, Tor Kristian values the care he feels he gets as an employee. 

“Compared to my previous roles, DNV is set apart by the way it treats you seriously as an employee and the people really care about you. I can ask for opportunities or training to improve my skills – I'm currently completing my software security green belt.” 

Opportunities offered by DNV to meet other people are also appreciated, such as an internal networking and social program which helps colleagues exchange knowledge and build friendships. 

“You can meet and network with people from other business areas who you otherwise wouldn’t. I enjoyed joining in rebus race here at Høvik.”
