About the role

Take a leading role within the energy industry and be part of our team delivering world class services within advisory, verification and technology development projects to the energy industry? The DNV Risers and Cables section is seeking to strengthen the team with a Principal Engineer at our main office at Høvik, Norway.

The Risers & Cables section consists of more than 20 engineers delivering world class services within risers, well systems, umbilicals and cables exposed to hydrodynamic loading. These products are vital in many market segments, like Offshore Wind, Oil&Gas, Floating Solar Power and Maritime. You will therefore work in a dynamic and exciting environment that actively works towards transitioning the global energy market towards a greener and more sustainable future.

In our section you will work closely with leading experts within their fields and cooperate with others in the vast technical network at DNV and be involved in exciting cross-disciplinary projects. We are a competence center related to the full life cycle of the products within our scope, and take on the role as expert, solutions provider and standard setter for our clients. We are involved in projects all over the world, supporting our local offices and global clients.

We also invest heavily in research and development (R&D) in close co-operation with the industry, using our accumulated knowledge to develop tomorrow's standards and software products. Being in the forefront of digitalization, we are currently working with several exciting initatives that makes us a leader in digital services for the energy industry.

Your responsibilities as a Principal Engineer in our section will consist in a variety of tasks, but not limited to:

  • Provide technical expertise within slender marine structures such as Risers, Cables and Umbilicals
  • Environmental modelling and global analysis of slender marine structures, local finite element analysis (FEA), structural reliability analysis (SRA) to advise on products, systems and operations
  • Management of technical advisory projects and customer contact
  • Initiate Joint Industry Projects (JIP) to drive the industry forward. Participate in business development activities. Build relationships and manage interfaces with external clients.
  • Development and maintenance of both inhouse and commercial software for our clients
  • Technical qualification of products, integrity management of assets and certification of products
  • Development and revision of relevant DNV standards and recommended practices
  • Participation in relevant international forums and conferences

About you

We are looking for:

  • Skilled Engineers with more than 10 years of relevant working experience
  • MSc or PhD degree in Marine Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Structural Engineering, Mathematics/Statistics/Physics, or other relevant degrees
  • Competence in one or more of the disciplines within hydrodynamics, global analysis , local finite element analysis (FEA), structural reliability analysis (SRA) and data science/programming skills is an advantage
  • Working knowledge with the following analysis tools is an advantage: Riflex, Orcaflex, Abaqus or similar
  • Working knowledge of international rules and standards for risers, umbilicals or cables
  • Advanced English skills. Excellent ability to produce clear written reports and communicate verbally in English
  • Norwegian language skills are an advantage
